ABOUT ORGANIC
In today’s marketplace, the word “organic” can be seen in retail sector on many different products. So, what is “organic”?
The word “organic” applies all types of foods, clothing, and household goods. In general, organic food is grown in your local community, following strict guidelines in order to leave the slightest or no footprint on Earth. Organic products are grown without the use of pesticides, hormones, or any other chemical cocktails, which are used to enhance growth and to obtain resistance to bugs. Organic food means more than just growing foods without toxic substances; the farms producing organic products go far beyond this.
Organic farmers strive to create a healthy balance within the environment in order to ensure the highest quality of product and to have a minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystem. By fostering and maintaining healthy soil, organic farmers deter pests and diseases, somewhat like the concept of maintaining good health in order to ward off sickness. When processing and transporting organic goods, special care is taken. Standards are met to make sure the products are safe and processed in an ecological manner. Products will be transported preferably in short distances (less pollution to get apples from a local farm than a farm in a different country) and will be transported separately from non-organic foods and chemicals to avoid contamination.
